Some examples of installations after a range of
our recent Dairy Parlour Energy Audits are :
1.
80 Bail Rotary -
Canterbury
Installed ‘Boost’ RRHW – single unit connected to liquid refrigerant
lines of two refrigeration units. Year round power savings
estimated at $6,537 per year but in practice being exceeded with
reduction of 30% of total shed running power for three months since
install. Payback <18 months.
2.
70 Bail Rotary –
Canterbury
Installed ‘Boost’ RRHW – single unit dual connected to liquid
refrigerant lines of two refrigeration units. Replaced leaking
hot water valves upgraded water cylinder filling to automatic
reducing staff related decisions, boosted refrigeration energy
capacity. Power savings measured at 150kWh/day estimated at
$6,265 per year. Payback 2 years.
3.
34 Bail Herringbone
Installed with new larger vat no additional chiller capacity
required.
Could have used a water chiller as primary cooling poor (bore water 15.3+ degrees in winter) but capital was constrained so benefitted in increased chilling ability. Model was RWHW so can take heat from farm water when milk flow variable or at start and end of season. Projected payback 3 years.
4.
80 Bail Rotary with 2,300
cows multiple daily pickups from limited vat capacity.
Requires snap chilling option to reduce milk temperature, warm
primary cooling over 20 degrees C water in summer. Propose to
initially add RRHW ‘Boost’ to existing dual refrigeration units then
when new vat installs change new fridge unit to combination vat and
pre-cooling Enersol water chilling unit with total spend under
$40,000. Result will be 1,000kW of cooling for under 400 kWhrs/day
compared to alternative glycol options up to 730 kWhrs/day
5.
36 Bail Herringbone with
older water chilling system and homemade vat insulation
Modified PLC controller to ensure primary water plump only came on
with milk flow. Removed wet bats from vat cover and replaced
with bubble wrap for vat insulation. Changed from single
recirculating water tank to two with Enersol sparge system design.
Proposed further install of small ‘Boost’ will enhance existing
chilling efficiency by approx 30%.
6.
50 Bail new Rotary - modern
chiller with existing de-super heater.
Installed RHW ‘Boost’ to automate all hot water and reduce chiller
run time. Projected savings 3 year payback.
7.
40 bail Rotary, low cow
numbers and variable milk flow with undersized chiller unit.
Installed small RWHW ‘Boost’ projected savings are 36 – 65 kWh/day
expecting average of – 50 kWh/day or approx $2,900. 3 year
payback. Owner saved capital cost of installing a bigger chiller .
